TGIF

This Friday's Question:

Q: Taking it Personal: Which books have effected you on a personal level and lingered in your mind long after you closed the pages?

A: The first book that comes to my mind is Oh, The Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss. I read this book a couple months age, a few weeks before my high school graduation, and its stuck with me. I loved everything that this book said. It went perfectly with the circumstances in my life. I felt like I was being told about how the world would be after graduation in an uplifting way, not in a way that would scare me and make me fearful. Oh, The Places You'll Go told me things that I needed to her. It made me want to never give up hope, to never give up on my dreams, and to pursue my happiness.

"So be sure when you step, Step with care and great tact. And remember that life's A Great Balancing Act. And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed) Kid, you'll move mountains! . . . So...
be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray
or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea,
you're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!"
Dr. Seuss (Oh, the Places You'll Go!)

  3. My first grade teacher used to have this wood turkey with little holes for suckers and she read so often to my class. She became principal but when we were ready to graduate 8th grade, she came back and read, no joke, that Dr Suess story to us, and brought us the turkey and suckers. I almost cried. :) Great choice, and I swear that's a true story!
